Functional Electrical Stimulation Clinic

Both Julia and Marika are trained and work alongside the National Clinical FES NHS service by providing an Outreach Clinic in Eastbourne. FES is the application of electrical impulses to help walking and hand/arm function for people with a wide range of neurological conditions.

See here for more information about FES.

Exercise Professional

We have a specialist personal trainer who has a range of appropriate knowledge and skills regarding the affects of exercise on specific conditions.

Whether you’re looking to burn fat, get fit, train for a specific event or just kick start your training, to get the best results we need customised programs. A personal trainer will put together a comprehensive and personalised program that provides the correct level of cardiovascular and resistance training together with nutritional guidance whilst taking into account your neurological impairments.

Postural Care

Postural care what is it ?

  • Postural care is how we position our bodies when we lie, sit, stand, and move.
  • People who find it difficult to move are at more risk of developing altered body shape.
  • This altered body shape can then impact on, function, comfort, pressure relief, digestion and respiratory function.

Goals of postural care:

  • Reduce pain and improve comfort.
  • To gain a functional position to interact with environment.
  • Prevention of pressure areas.
  • Maintain a good structural alignment to be able to sit or stand.
  • Provide a 24hour approach, meaning 24hour good management of postural needs.

Ways we can achieve this:

  • Thorough assessment by Physio and Occupational Therapist.
  • Equipment such as seating, sleeping support systems, wedges.
  • Therapy intervention to work on posture and alignment and maintenance of range of movement and muscle length.

Example of recent postural intervention provided by Rehab4u Team:

We were asked to support a client who was in bed all day in a nursing home and was only up once a week for a hairdressing appointment. She was extremely uncomfortable in her current chair. We provided Occupational and Physiotherapy to assess and support in trialling several new chairs. As a result this lady is now sitting out on a daily basis in a chair, has less pain, has many more social interactions and visits from family.

If you are interested in finding out more the please do get in touch. We would be more than happy to support you or your relative in improving posture. We would provide:

  • An initial assessment by Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist with report and recommendations.
  • Ongoing support to add in equipment and treatment plans to improve postural care.

Podiatrist

Podiatrists are healthcare professionals trained to assess, diagnose and treat foot and associated lower limb problems.

They can provide foot health screening, foot care education and help reduce pain and discomfort resulting from disease, injury, abnormal foot action and deformity. They can promote better foot function that aims to reduce future foot problems thus keeping individuals mobile and active.

We no longer offer the services of a podiatrist but we can recommend Maria at the Foot and Health Clinic.
